OUR PURPOSE
Of Cats and Crafts is the blog for what I like to call my handmade, eco-thrifty life. There is a way we can live - in a more purposeful way and with a smaller footprint - through the handmade. Handmade living is all about restoring the power of making to our lives and thinking creatively for the sake of the Earth. What we do? We DIY instead of buying new products all the time, we scavenge thrift stores for unique, small footprint finds - we act consciously for the Earth. Oh, and we love our cats. Meow!

I'm Amina, a University of Maryland Environmental Science and Policy major, and I love making things! So do my two lovely cats - Mona and Diddley - who have artistic soulss, or at least intuitively walk on/rub their faces on whatever I'm working with. Another one of their hobbies is walking through the sewing machine while I'm using it. ;)
I work on a small, college kid budget, so I do my best to minimize my waste and spending by reusing and repurposing, thus I upcycle a lot! I'm very big on building a sustainable lifestyle through the small-scale and localist aspects of the handmade (plus much more, but not easy to sum up in a sentence!). Just a forewarning/something that may make you feel good: I don't have any formal training in sewing, digital imaging, knitting or anything that I do on here. You may often find my DIYs are significantly lacking in real sewing terms. I just try to explain things as best I can. But it also might just show you that literally anyone can craft if they want, which is why I'm here - to give back to the creative community with what I know... and to learn some new tricks too. :) Thanks for stopping by!
