St. Patrick's Day Fashion: Mastering the Art of Mint

Happy St. Patrick's Day, everyone! But oh, what a fashion nightmare! Am I right?? Green is just not the best color for most people. Thankfully, though, we have mint green to rescue us. :) How to master it though - that's up to you.

3 Ways to Wear Mint:

Wear it Sweet and Sexy as a short dress {here on Pinterest}. Mint spring dresses are to good in small doses.
As an Accent Piece - badass cardigan {here on Pinterest}. I saw one at H&M and I'm dying for it!
On Trend - pants! {here on Pinterest} I <3 minty pants. I'd love a pair, but I have a resolution...

I found this pair of mint capri-ish pants at Value Village and as cute as they are, lace mint capris aren't really my style so I'm going to transform them into scalloped shorts! The pants happen to fit my butt perfectly soo as shorts, I really just can't imagine the wonders they're going to do. ;) How do you like the idea? Yay? Nay? Look out for those damn pinchers today!! <3 Amina

Meow Mix Friday: Flowers + Cats Just Don't Mix

I really wish I could get Mona & Diddley to pose prettily like this cat above! They normally just do things like the first cat and they do it too fast to get a good picture of them. I'm officially home for *Spring Break!!* and they are loving it. I can tell. Both of them are laying about and scratching things to try and tell me what's theirs and what's mine. True <3 -Amina :3

DIY: Easy Flower Stamps

They look like magnolia flowers right? An easy peasy DIY.

Materials: rubber erasers, x-acto knife, stamp ink!

How To: Draw the shapes on rubber erasers and use the x-acto knife to cut them out. I used the x-acto knife to put little holes in the flower center to give it a little texture. & then just stamp away!

I found this cool little set of stamp pads at Jo-Ann the other day. $9 for hoursss of entertainment.

I can't get enough of these flowers! I hope you <3 them too :) - Amina

DIY: Flower Cuff

Continuing our flowering theme this week, here's a flower cuff DIY inspired by a cuff by BHLDN. {Here on Pinterest.} I made this cuff to go with my flower hair clip for the wedding Brad and I went to last weekend. I also made this cuff only a few hours before we left the house so it really shouldn't take you too long either. Enjoy the DIY!

Here's what you'll need:
A strip of fabric about 8" by 2"
A needle and thread
A strip of suede that fits your wrist
A circle of suede for the flower center
Beads
A hot glue gun
Fasteners

How To:
1 - Fold the fabric in half and do a loose running stitch along the bottom and pull tight to cinch.
2 - Sew the ends of the flower together.
3 - Glue the circle of suede to the center of the flower.
4 - Sew the beads to the suede.
5 - Sew the flower to the center of the suede wristband.
6 - Sew on the fasteners so it fits your wrist.

& Ta da! A flower cuff! It would be cute for Prom! I posted my flower clip DIY to my Tumblr also and someone reblogged it saying that it would be great for Prom and I agree. I actually made my junior Prom dress out of this exact same pink fabric! So many good memories with this fabric. I can't believe junior prom was five years ago. It was the first prom I ever went to and I went with my lovely boyfriend Brad that I'm still with to this day. ;) This was my dress and ohmygod I can't find my old prom pictures!! I'll be on a mission to find them as soon as I get home for Springg Breakkkkkkkk.

The cuff works as a great corsage if you're looking for a substitute for a real one or if you're planning a springtime wedding! Enjoy lovelies! I'm going to try to go out and see the Cherry Blossoms over Spring Break, sew and party hard for my mom's birthday! Check back in with me. <3 Amina

A Book + A Craft: The Lorax inspired

A Lorax inspired craft??? YES. We obviously have to, right? I want to save my worst (+ best) environmental ramblings on this subject for Earth day or Arbor day or something, so today, I'll just post a flowering craft for you with a few words from the book. {So lets focus on the book today, not the movie. As well intentioned as the movie was, its aftermath has just been sad so I'll save it for later. Something for you to look forward to ;)}

So in case you don't know, The Lorax is a book about a place that has just been degraded from factory production. It goes from this - a beautiful place where all the Bar-ba-loots (bears) are happy, all the Truffula trees stand tall and lovely, the waterways are clean for the Humming Fish, your typical productive ecosystem -

To this: your typical degraded ecosystem where no Truffula trees grow any longer and no Bar-ba-loots or Humming fish can live in anymore. It's a generally polluted and unsafe environment thanks to the Once-ler who degraded the ecosystem to make thneeds - a thing that all people need.

The most famous words of this book - the takeaway message, if you will - is in the scene above. The Seuss man writes: "UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." The word "UNLESS" stands there outside of the Once-ler's house reminding him of the sobering fact and reality he created out of this world that once belonged to everyone and now can belong and serve no one.

Let's get crafty: So my Lorax inspired craft had to be environmentally friendly! I used a thrift store yarn, a Starbucks frappuccino container and this awesome Sharpie pen to decorate. I love these bottles because they have such a cute shape to them. The pen writes on glass, ceramic (and just about everything else) and comes in tons of colors so you can make decorative vases out of just about anything now! Simple, sweet and easy as pie. And the truffula inspired flowers were already laying about in the house - pom pom flowers! {Pom pom tutorial here on Creature Comforts}

Take some care for the Earth today and remember...

DIY: Flower Hair Pin

Hey everyone! We're in a flowery theme this week so here's a DIY treat. A cute flower hair pin! This is really simple, really cute and really fast to make for a subtly spring look. I made this hair pin and a matching flower cuff for the wedding I went to over the weekend... and I made it about two hours before we left for the wedding. Yea, I'm last minute, but that should just prove how easy and quick it is if you're looking for a last minute idea for accessorizing like I always am.

Materials:

A strip of fabric about 3"x8"
Thread + a needle
A hairpin (any kind that works for your hair!)
Beads

How To:
1. Fold the fabric in half and do a loose running stitch down the length. Pull the fabric tight to cinch.
2. Sew the ends together.
3. Sew the flower to the hairpin. Do multiple loops around it so it stays tight.
4. Sew beads to the center of the flower.

& Voila! Love it??? Damn I need a hair cut. I'll be off to do that this weekend probs. Enjoy the DIY! -Amina
